The Pracitioner

Ittinat Seeboonruang

My work is guided by a question I have returned to again and again: what fragments us, and what helps the different dimensions of ourselves come back into coherent relationship?

I am a vocal music therapist, Reiki Master and teacher, and interdisciplinary facilitator. I draw from psychology, embodiment, phenomenology, and energetics—not as one unified system, but as different ways of understanding human experience. Over time, my practice has become increasingly concerned with what I call human coherence: our capacity to recognize when body, emotion, psyche, relationship, and energy have moved out of alignment, and to find our way back.

My path into this work began with the voice. I trained as a classical singer at Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, and later completed a Master’s in Music Therapy in Germany. My graduate research became the foundation for Vocal Voyage, an embodied voice practice built around a principle that has become central to my work: The Voice is the Self. Our voice carries far more than sound. It can reveal something of our body, emotional life, history, defenses, relationships, and ways of being that we may not yet have words for. Working with the voice can make these layers audible and felt, allowing new awareness—and with it, the possibility for regulation, expansion, and transformation.

Running alongside this has been my Reiki practice. I have practiced Reiki for more than sixteen years and am a 7th-generation Reiki Master in a direct Usui Shiki Ryoho lineage. Reiki gives me a different way of listening and understanding: through energy, the unconscious, and aspects of experience that do not always fit neatly within ordinary or clinical explanations.

I don't feel a need to make one of these traditions explain the other. Therapeutic knowledge and energetic knowledge can sit beside one another without becoming the same thing. Much of my practice now lives in that meeting place.

This work has taken me into very different rooms: private healing sessions, hospitals, grassroots communities, retreats, public workshops, and corporate training. As an Atlantic Fellow for Health Equity in Southeast Asia and China, I have also worked with communities facing adversity where conventional mental-health approaches may not always reach or fit. I care deeply about bringing embodied and alternative healing beyond spaces already familiar with them, while finding language that allows the work to enter formal settings without losing its depth.

Sacred Self is where these different strands of my practice can meet. The setting may change, and the way I work may change with it, but the inquiry remains the same: what helps us return to coherence?
